un bien bonbon
November 11, 2009
When I was seven my grandmother bought me The Little Princess. The cover was pink, the dress Sarah wore on the cover was pink, and Nanny gave me a pink, rose-scented bookmark to use. (What can I say, your girl loved pink.) The bookmark was so richly scented that my beloved book still smells like sweet, old-fashioned roses.
Sometimes you need a small luxury. No one does small luxuries better than the French. These super-hard, sweet little pastilles taste like old-fashioned roses. They’re more elegant than gum but honestly, I just like them because the tin is so pretty and they taste like one of my favourite memories. And at $2.00 a tin I can afford to crack my teeth on a tin a day.
